Henri de Toulouse Laurtrec was born in France in 1864. He was a major post-impressionist painter and contributed a large body of work despite his short life span. His influenced countless members of later generations and can still be seen in the works of painters today. Tragically his life was cut short because of his alcoholism, and he died in 1901 at age 36.
Laurtrec’s style can be described as clean with clear lines and colors. His paintings are said to look like colored drawings. Lautrec was greatly influenced by the other french painters of his time and spent most of his adult life in Montmarte , a bohemian section of Paris that was home to many painters, writers and other artists.This/tag helps explain it more. Laurtrec is possibly most influential because of the many posters he created. Some of his first work was a series of posters he created for the opening of the Moulin Rouge. Afterwords his work was consistently displayed there.

Laurtrec’s work was created at the beginning of what is seen as the modernist period and his works exemplify the style of the time. One of the artist who was influenced by Laurtrec was Pablo Picasso. Laurtrec’s influence can be seen in the lines and contours of his paintings, particularly during his “blue period”.
